Instead of moving your mess from one place to another, a storage unit is a chance for you to declutter and an opportunity to organize your belongings. Placing large items such as mattresses, appliances, and furniture at the back of your container can be helpful so you don’t have to move them out of the way when you’re trying to find something smaller. Once you have the largest items at the rear, we recommend that you pack from the sides and inwards – with the items you are most likely to need placed near the front. This allows an open space through the middle of the container for you to use as a pathway and easily access everything, without having to move items out of your way to get to the back.
Here are a few more tips on how to organize your storage container from the moment you move in, and keep it organized.
Organizing your belongings into categories and placing each category into their own box or set of boxes is the best way to keep your storage unit organized. Cardboard boxes work great and are recyclable. This option works well if you are storing your items short term and need limited access to the contents inside. If you plan on moving your things around a lot, another great option is to store your items in clear plastic totes. They are reusable, a little bit sturdier, and this way you can easily see what is inside of each one.
Once you have your boxes organized, ensure that you label them. Using masking tape and a permanent marker only takes a few seconds and can save you time when searching for a specific item later on. Make sure to put the label on the front of the box to ensure easy reading when stacking boxes on top of each other. It is also a good idea to mark things that are fragile. Not only will labelling help you keep things organized inside of your shipping container, but when you decide to move back out of your storage unit it will be easy to bring your belongings back into certain places in your home or business.
Shelving is another way to get organized and maximize your storage space. Shelves are also helpful to easily access your items without having to dig something out from the bottom of a pile. We have a variety of shelving specifically made for sea cans for you to choose from depending on your needs.
The bottom line – keep the big at the back, the most needed at the front, and stay organized!
