If 2021 has shown us anything, it showed us what is possible when you harness the power of flexibility, creativity, community, and an industrious spirit. Between the wrath of Mother Nature and the ever-changing landscape for events and small business, we all owe it to ourselves to celebrate the various roadblocks and curveballs that were overcome this year. When communities and businesses embrace the grit and will of their people and keep an agile and outcome-oriented mindset, the possibilities are boundless.

While each individual and business had a unique set of cards in their hand this year, we would like to take a moment to celebrate our highlights from 2021:

Expanding Inventory Amidst Global Shortage

When the pandemic began, countries far and wide implemented lockdowns and ceased the production of goods, bringing economic growth to a screeching halt. The combination of lockdown regulations, staffing cuts, and record-breaking levels of cargo created a massive backlog of containers and ultimately drove container prices up.

When Dave Bush, Managing Owner of Cratex Container Sales & Rentals in the Lower Mainland decided to pass on his legacy to a similar values-based business, Secure-Rite was eager to take it on. As a result, Secure-Rite welcomed Cratex clients to the family in July 2021. Secure-Rite’s emphasis on excellence, community, agility, and grit, made the acquisition of Cratex Container Sales & Rentals the perfect addition to a growing portfolio, as well as a key accelerator for expansion plans over the next 10 years. The Secure-Rite team is proud to continue serving the Lower Mainland in this way!

Advocating For Local Business

The importance of strengthening our community and supporting local business has never been more apparent. We believe in ‘prosperity for purpose’, and when we are fortunate enough to be able to give in a time of need, we will do our part to uplift our community and local economy.

  • Best of Kelowna 2021
    • For a second year in a row, we joined forces with KelownaNow to celebrate Kelowna’s best – locals voted on everything from their favourite burger joints, hair salons, coffee shops, dentists, contractors, and more. The gold, silver, and bronze winners of over 170 categories were celebrated during a virtual gala in July. Take a look at this year’s Best of Kelowna favourites.
  • 365 Days of Local
    • We teamed up with KelownaNow and Kelowna Toyota to create 365 Days of Local, an initiative designed to support and feature local businesses, schools, non-profits, entrepreneurs and anyone whose operation has been affected by this climate and can otherwise not afford to allocate funds towards their marketing budget. Businesses could sign up to be published in a free daily feature article, social media promotion, and entered to win a variety of prizes throughout the year.

Lending Hands & Space To Our Communities

While mobile storage is what we offer, our people and community are the heartbeat behind the business. Our team shares a strong connection and commitment to doing some good and having a positive impact in our communities through donations of time, product, and finances to various initiatives throughout the year.

Take a look at the impact of our giving in 2021:

Supporting our communities is a core value and ongoing initiative at Secure-Rite, and these are some of the organizations we were able to do some good for this year:

Inviting Others Into Our Story

Like many of the entrepreneurs and businesses around us, Secure-Rite Mobile Storage began with a vision, and that vision was to bring people and portable space together in creative and meaningful ways. It wasn’t just about containers, it was about serving others through movable space and bringing them closer to fulfilling their dream or need – whether that means creating a functional space for the industries that fuel our country, giving the gift of space to people in need or charitable initiatives, or fitting all of the moving parts of life’s transitions into a safe space. As a family-owned local business, we felt it was important to step into our story and share the people, core values, purpose, and mission beyond the containers. We hope you see parts of your own journey in this story, and we hope you’ll share your story with others too.

As life has taught all of us, the only that never changes is that everything can change, so no matter what scenario leaves you needing space in between it all – Life Fits Here.™

Celebrating Business Excellence

For seventeen years, Secure-Rite Mobile Storage has ensured that treating people like family and doing the right thing even when nobody is looking is always at the forefront of the business.

This year, Secure-Rite was humbled to be recognized for an ongoing commitment to entrepreneurial excellence, ethical business practices, and social responsibility:

Spreading Holiday Cheer

The ‘season of giving’ has no real start or end, but it is especially important to help if you can, and where you can during the holidays. This year, we were fortunate enough to be able to spread our impact to six crucial community initiatives spanning from Calgary to Vancouver.

  • Kelowna Santas
    • For our second year in a row, we joined Kelowna Toyota and KelownaNow to help collect donations for children and teenagers in need. In our efforts to provide a better Christmas for those who are less fortunate, we were able to help over 300 families and 700 kids in Lake Country, Kelowna, and West Kelowna!
  • Salvation Army Calgary
    • Our Calgary team was kind enough to invest $500 towards the Salvation Army Calgary's community support services and family programming!
  • CO Food Bank Stuff The Bus
    • The Central Okanagan Food Bank works hard to create a healthy and hunger-free community, and this year’s Stuff The Bus Food Drive in Kelowna and West Kelowna received two 20’ shipping containers’ worth of food donations – 13,000 lbs. to be exact, as well as $11,000 in cash donations!
  • Atira Women’s Resource Society
    • Atira’s Outreach Van Program provides women on the streets of Surrey with snacks, supplies, clothing, safe rides, medical care and treatment, as well as emotional one-to-one support seven days a week. We are so proud of our Surrey team for investing $1,000 towards the Outreach Van operations and advocating for women’s health and safety in the Lower Mainland!
  • Beacons & Friends WinterFest and Holiday Market at Grizzli Winery
    • Beacon & Friends helps to provide families and children in the Thompson Okanagan region with a "paw up" in life through programs like the Beacon Buddies Maple Syrup Stand Children's Fund, Fill-A-Backpack, and Gifts to Celebrate. These amazing programs help to fund medical needs for families with sick children and empower them to maximize their full potential. Our Kelowna team was happy to give the gift of storage space with a 20’ shipping container at the holiday market!
  • Brown Bagging 4 Calgary’s Kids
    • Did you know that 21% of Calgarians struggle to buy food and groceries for themselves and their families? More than two thirds of the students in Calgary’s schools receive lunches from BB4CK, and our Calgary team was kind enough to donate $500 to help keep Calgary’s children fed!

We would like to applaud our staff and families, partners, clients, and the community at large for the fortitude, agility, grit, and heart that we witnessed throughout another challenging year. We would also like to thank you for another year of business and for supporting a family-owned local business – we are always here to help and proud to serve you.

We wish you and your loved ones happiness, health, wellness, and prosperity going into 2022!
