What Size of Container do I Need?

The most popular mobile containers for moving are the 10’ or 20’

  • A 10’ unit has a capacity of 550 cubic feet and is suitable for homes with one bedroom.
  • A 20’ unit has a capacity of 1170 cubic feet and is suitable for homes with two or three bedrooms.
  • Four bedrooms homes and larger may required two units.  We suggest you begin with one 20’ unit and once it is fully packed, assess if an additional unit is needed.

How Much Weight Can The Container Handle?

Our standard moving rates include maximum content weight of 5000lbs.  This is to ensure that the total weight of the container plus the contents does not exceed the legal limit of our standard truck and equipment.  Larger trucks are available for containers that exceed the 5000lb limit but additional charges will apply.

Most domestic packing (furniture, electronics, kitchenware, clothes etc) generally does not risk exceeding the 5000lb limit.  Items that can add a lot of weight include home gym equipment, large book collections, and workshop or garage equipment.  Please let us know when booking if you think you may be packing more that 5000lbs and we will arrange to move your unit with the appropriate equipment.

Locking the Container

Our driver will demonstrate the technique to easily open and close the container doors.  It is important that you have a quality padlock to secure the container.  We always have a supply of locks available for purchase (ask our driver at delivery).
