Frequently Asked Questions
Renting
How much notice is needed for delivery of a rental container?
We request a minimum 1 - 2 days notice for both delivery and pickup of your container.
Is there a minimum period that I need to keep the unit for?
There is a one-month minimum rental period. Outside the one-month minimum, part months are pro-rated by the day.
How is my lock protected?
Our rental containers come equipped with a steel lock box welded to the outside of the unit. The lock box conceals and protects your lock from being tampered with. If you plan to purchase a container we would recommend a lock box in addition to your container.
Is there anything inside the container to keep my belongings from shifting?
There are tie down hooks on both-sides, top and bottom, on the inside of the container to secure your belongings during transit.
Are my belongings insured when they are stored in the containers?
You are responsible for insuring your belongings. Check with your Homeowners policy provider.
Is there anything that I cannot pack in the container?
Do not pack any hazardous, illegal, explosive or flammable materials. Propane tanks should not be placed in the containers. Gasoline and oil should be drained from any equipment placed in the container.
What color and condition are the containers?
Rental units are painted a beige color to blend in with your surroundings. They are all new "one trip" containers at the time they are added to our fleet, and are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness.
What if my container needs repair?
Secure-Rite Mobile Storage will maintain the unit throughout the term of the rental period. If you need maintenance, simply give us a call and we will come out promptly. Regular maintenance repairs are free of charge.
Buying
If I buy a container, how long will delivery take from the time of order?
Normal delivery time can be as quick as two to five business days providing you are not having any modifications done to the unit. If you need something sooner, we will do our best to accommodate your schedule.
What color are the containers?
Sale units can be supplied in a variety of colors. We recommend neutral colors that blend in such as beige, grey, light green, or dark green. Used containers come in various colours and may have shipping line markings.
Delivery
Is there any site preparation necessary?
The only thing you need to worry about is that the surface is fairly level, smooth, and firm. We can deliver on dirt as long as it is not too soft. We can also deliver on cement, pavement, asphalt, gravel or grass.
How much space is required for delivery?
The amount of space required is minimal. For a 20' storage container, you will need approximately 60 feet of straight clearance. For a 40' container, you will need approximately 110 feet of straight clearance. The width requirement is approximately 10 feet. Up to 15ft of overhead clearance is necessary; please ensure there are no overhead wires or branches that may obstruct during delivery.
How is the container delivered?
The driver will back into your site, raise the truck or trailer tilt-deck up, gently lower one end of the container to the ground, the truck then slides out from under the container while using the tilt-deck to carefully lower the container to the ground.
Will the container damage my driveway?
We make every effort to minimize the risk of any damage while delivering or picking up. In order to protect your driveway our driver will place wood pads under the corners of the unit while offloading takes place.
General
Are the containers weatherproof?
Yes. We inspect all of our storage containers before they leave our delivery yard to be sure they do not leak. The containers are completely enclosed and will keep wind and rain out so your contents stay dry and secure. They also have ventilation with a minimum of two vents on each container.
What are the containers made of?
Our containers are constructed of 12 to 14 gauge steel with 1 1/8" marine grade hardwood flooring, and watertight gasket around the doors.
Is it okay to place my storage unit on the street?
When delivering a storage unit, it is the policy of Secure-Rite Mobile Storage to locate the unit on private property whenever possible. Occasionally, due to access restrictions for our delivery vehicle or at the request of a client, we will locate the unit on a City street or lane. When it is necessary to locate the unit on a street it is the responsibility of the Renter/Lessee to obtain a permit from the applicable City or Municipality.
What if I want shelving?
Heavy duty shelving brackets are available for purchase or rent. We can install the brackets in the units upon request. The customer is responsible for his own wood or steel to rest on the shelving brackets.
